"THE CITY"
"The city" is the name  of our project this time. To start it,  all of us (students and teachers) gone to the centre of Lisbon, more proprely, Baixa-Rossio, Martim Moniz and Mouraria. This was really an amazing study visit. It gives us another truthfull perspective about the realities of Lisbon and the  life in  there. For one day, we were the 'turists' or the 'obsevers' of our city and with that chance, we saw so many things that in other  way we didn't care about it.

In my point of view, this trip to Lisbon was such an opportunitie that in all  the moments I took photos, tried to understand the energie of all the places that we were, tried to understand the way of living of the people and also how it is the other realities in my city that I'm not really used to and how the people live.

So, right now we will work to our final work about this project 'THE CITY'

'Different places' by Gentleman, the music that for me connects A LOT with this trip and with this project. For me, the music of the trip.

"POSTER"

This time the work that we had to do was a poster about a topic of the book, «LINKS» . My group (me, Joana, João, Rodrigo and Tiago) worked about our multicultural world. We tried to do a good presentation that showed that in the classes we were organised and always focused in the final work. In our topic, Multicultural world, we had a lot to work with. In the final, I think that we had worked very very well in the classes, so I also think that our presentation was very good too. The presentation, in my opinion, showed that we were a organised group and also that we cooperate very well, together.

Our presentation had 2 big questions: «What comes to your mind when you listen the world culture?» and «And what about discrimination and racism. Did you thought about it when we talk of cultures?»

So, as you can see we matched a lot the theme «Culture and Multicultural world» with discrimination and racism because it's a trouble that in 2010 should be overpast and in our presentation we tried to show a lot that we have to respect each others if we want to be respected. We also talked about  the different foods, clothes and languages of the world, in other words, other different things that distinguish the many different cultures of the world.

In the final, for me, we did a very good job with our presentation and with our work in the class , so this work for me was well done.

"11º"
Halooo people. The school has already started, and like the last year I will post everything that I think that has to be with the english class and things that I like and that I think that are good to share in my e-portfolio. Of course, that I enjoyed my holidays, and started again the new year on school it's always that thing, «school? again? ohhh...the holidays are so good, why do we have to go to school right now?», but after we understand that is the normal thing in our life, as student, come back again to the school.

In 11º I have a lot to achieve, like rise up my marks in maths , geography and the marks  in general. It's very important to me in this moment to have good marks, it's an essential thing in the students life, and mine it's not an exception so I have to work...

For the english class, I hope that the dynamic continues, we had already done an exercise, egg-cersise, that had a lot to be with colaboration and cooperation in group, where the objective was do a surface able to protect the egg to not broke.

I also hope to do presentations about things that I like, I hope have always everything organised and of course have a good mark. A role-play, I think that  will be very fuuny, too :)

A new year in school, started right now...so LET'S MAKE IT WORK.

"COME BACK TO THE REALITY"

So, as you can see I've loved my trip to the Germany, but right now I've to come back to the world, to the reality of my life, because the year it's almost in the end and I've to take good marks if I want to have an amazing summer...Right now I've a lot to do. I've to study english (the grammar) and work in my e-portfolio (review; short story and also my opinion text) , i've to do a lot of works (economics, maths, philosophies, homeworks) and also study for the final tests...So, I've a lot to work, as you can see...Let's do it!

Learning Journal # 16

"MY PRESENTATION IN GERMANY"
What is a portfolio to me?
 - A portfolio is a way to help me organise my schoolwork, a way to share information with my colleagues and also a way to express my opinions.

Why did I start doing it online?
- I started doing it online because it's easier than doing it in paper, it's more fun because an online portfolio allows me to post videos and images about the things that I write. And also, because with an e-portfolio my colleagues can read it whenever they please.

The look of my portfolio.
- My online portfolio is divided by 3 sections: "Learning Journal entries", "Online Portfolio&Texts" and "The good things in my life". All the sections can be identified by the colours of the blogs. One is pink, other is blue and another is green. In my e-portfolio I always try to organise perfectly his look. To concrete this I decide to do a layout (the layout with the flowers) which is maybe the feature that best defines my portfolio. It's my own creation and I love it.

What I like most in my portfolio?
- So like I said before, my portfolio has 3 sections. 1 is for the LJ entries which is where I post things about the things about the work that was done in the classes and also where I post about things that happen in my life. The "Online portfolio&Texts" it's a section where I post all the texts that the teacher told us to do...My favourite one is "the script" which is about the dramatization that we had to do in the classes. Finally, my third and last section, "THE GOOD THINGS IN MY LIFE". This is my own section and I love it...Why? Because is there where I express myself about the things that I adore (music, cinema, love, dreams, feelings,etc)...

So this is my online portfolio and I hope you had like my presentation. Thanks for everything

"GERMANY..."
Germany. What a wonderful trip! What can I say about it?? For me, it was really a dream. I’ve loved every second I spent in Germany. Everything was perfect. Everything! The moments, the people we met, the places we visited, the trains, even the food and the water…

Everything seemed so unreal when I was there that I couldn’t believe what was happening. Imagine, I was in Germany to present my portfolio (which I have always loved to do) with colleagues (who for me are friends) and at the same time I had the opportunity to meet new people, new cultures and new places. What can be better than this? I know, amazing…

Like I said before, I presented my portfolio in Germany. I think that my presentation was very good because I was confident, I didn’t make mistakes with my English, and also because I’m so proud of my e-portfolio that I wasn’t even nervous. So it was really fun to do this presentation. In general I think that our presentations went well, because our English is good so it’s easy to understand what we say and also because the content of our projects (e-portfolios) is very interesting, so the audience wanted to know things about them. Another reason why our presentations were so interesting was the fact that all of the e-portfolios are so different. Each one of us (Patrícia, Henrique, Diogo and I) had something unique to present…

In Germany I also got to “know” new people and new cultures. Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and, of course, Germany are the countries that were represented there. It was really, really a funny experience to talk with all these “new people” because sometimes we started to talk English mixed with Portuguese, Italian and Spanish. It was so funny…

I also liked to meet these people because, as I usually say, “we, humans, learn with one another…with their mistakes and also with the good things”. This is what I remember most from the other teams and also from the trip: the fact that in this trip I have learned so much.

For example, with the German team (Anita, Jochen, Uwe and Patrick) I learned a lot of German new words and how to pronounce them. Let’s be honest, I love German. I was always talking with German people in the streets, in the train, everywhere.
With the Greek team I learned a lot about Greece and its culture and I talked a lot about Portugal with them, especially Maria who loves Portuguese tuna pâté. With the Turkish team I learned a lot about Turkish food and also how to make a typical Turkish hairstyle because Canan (pronounced ‘Dja-nan) made me this hairstyle (a great moment). With the Spanish team I learned a lot about their culture and also about Murcia. With the Italian team I learned some words in Italian and what I most remember from them is their friendliness (Giuseppe, Andrea and Graça) and also their sense of humour (Marco and Ricardo). They were very, very nice people, really.

All of the teams were amazing and it was seriously a fantastic experience to have met them. I cried when I had to say goodbye because I was already used to spending the days with everyone and also because I knew that the trip to Germany was about to end, so I was emotional when I had to say “bye”.

This trip to Germany made me understand that there is more than our little world in Portugal. It made me understand that we have to enjoy life, that we should travel, try new things that we like. If you don’t do this you will always think that your little life in your little world is the only thing that matters and you will stay ignorant forever!

So, as you can see I will never forget these five days that I spent there. They were unforgettable. I know that you will never know what exactly I feel because you didn’t live it but with this text you’ll have an idea of how much it meant to me.
See you. Kusse

"GERMANY?I CAN'T BELIEVE IN THIS...I'M SO HAPPY!"

I started doing my online portfolio because it's easier than doing it in paper, because it's more funny and also because online portfolio permits my colleagues reading it...Moreover portfolio online permits me post videos and images about the things that I write, so in my opinion it's better than paper portfolio...

I'm in holidays and in 29 March 2010 teacher told me that through my online portfolio I will travel to Germany with other colleagues, who will present their portfolios too, to present my online portfolio...I stayed so happy when I received that notice that when I came home I was imediately do a list of things to take in travel to Germany...
Right now I'm very excited, happy and with expectations about this travel because I've done some researches and Karlsruhe seems a very beautiful/nice place and the Black Forest should be a wonderful, wonderful place!...So, I know that this travel will be very funny and unique...

When I received the notice I can not believe what was happening...it seems so unreal... because I will travel to Germany to present my online portfolio ,which is a thing that I always like to do, with friends (my colleagues) and in the travel I will also have the opportunity to "know" a little bit of Germany and also know new people, new places and new cultures like Germany culture, Italian culture, greek culture and others...It will be an amazing experience, for sure... and I know that will be an unforgettable experience that I have to make the most...

"HOLIDAYS"
Finally I'm in Holidays...I know that holidays were made for relax and replenish energies, but in this holidays I have a lot to do...I have to work in my online portfolio, I have to clean the house, study(especially maths) and other things that are very important and which are very urgent...Of course that I also will be with my friends and have some fun but for me it's better to do a list of things that I've to do because sometimes I can be very lazy and this list helps me a lot in organisation of time and also in responsabilities...

The best thing in holidays, for me, it's the fact that we sleep more...It's amazing...I love sleep and holidays give me the chance to sleep a lot. Another thing that I love in holidays is the fact that I can stay more time watching tv at night without concerns about the other day, because we don't have classes at the other day...I also love the fact that in holidays in my swimming training I'm great because I stayed all day relaxing...

So, I love holidays but Of course that I also like classes but are different things and situations but I like both...Now I'm in holidays so I'm enjoying the moment but when I'll come back to the school I will enjoy the school, too...

In this holidays I've heard a lot of music. I love music but I believe that we (humans) have a lot of phases in music...sometimes we heard a thing one day, but at the other day we found another music, that is new for us, and sometimes you like and you can't stop listening...and sometimes you don't like and you swear that you will never more listen that music, of course with your original type of music that you can't betray...I believe in this...So, right now I "found" Jordin Sparks and I love her music, especially "Freeze" which is a music from her Cd. I also love "Hedonism (just because you feel good)" from skunk anansie which is a music that I listened in my mum's car that I adore. Rui Veloso it's also a new artist for me...I know that he has a long career but I only started listen him since I were in Porto...From him I can't stop listen "Porto Sentido" and "Jura"...Of course that Jazz and Coldplay are music that I always, always listen and like...

"Freeze"...Jordin Sparks...I love this song

"Porto Sentido"...Rui Veloso...This song reminds me Porto so much...

"Hedonism (just because you feel good)"...Skunk Anansie... What a wonderful song

"DEBATE"
My debate was about the disappear of the written press and my group had to defend that the written press will never disappear, this means that we're against the disappear of the written press.

I think that our debate was very good but I also think that we in the classes could worked more. In the classes we tried to do what the teacher had told us to do, but sometimes was difficult to us, of course in my opinion, because I was against the disappear, but the others elements of the group were for, so was a little difficult. Despite of this, we had a very good debate where we defend that the written press will never disappear. To defend this, we used arguments against the disappear. The arguments that we used were: The internet will work together with the written press despite of replace it, the number percentage of sales of written press have been increased instead of decrease, so this proves that people buy magazines and newspapers. Other argument that we used was that will always exist people who prefer the written press and not the Internet ways...

The thing that I've to improve to my next debate is the organisation and the study of more vocabulary because sometimes I muddled me with words cos' sometimes I don't know the words to say...so this is certainly a thing to improve.

Finally, I liked to do this debate because I adore when people confront their opinion with others who have the opposite, because it's funny observe the arguments that the both opinions have to say. The only thing that I changed in this debate it's the people who are against defend their opinion(against) and the people who are for defend the arguments for, because it's easier and better defend our opinion instead of  defend our opposite ideas and opinions.

"WILL THE WRITTEN PRESS DISAPPEAR?"

Will the written press disappear?, of course not...Written press was the topic that I had to work in the classes and my opinion it's against the disappear of the written press. Why? Because, in my opinion, the Internet won't replace the written press but work together with it, this means that Internet, which includes a lot of ways to help us see notices and a lot of things(videos, images, etc) with programmes like youtube, blogs and google will never make the written press disappear.

I also think that the written press will never disappear, because I think that will always exists people who like to buy newspapers and magazines who will always prefer the written press instead of Internet and technologies.

"PORTO"
Porto is a city that I will certainly never forget...The beautiful bridges...the wonderful monuments...the gardens...the river mouth...AMAZING...

I loved...loved my journey to Porto, because Porto is a city that I didn't know, which surprised me for the positive way...I though that Porto was a dangerous and scaring city without any interest...and now I want to go there again...

Now, I think that Porto is a very beautiful city, because it mixes history with sea which is a very unusual characteristic to have in a city...I recommend to all people who like to travel, to visit Porto because I know that you will like it.

In Porto you can't miss: the sightseeing to "know" the city, the river tour to visit the fantastic bridges, the bookshop "Lello", the riverside, Santa Catarina Street, the stadium of "Futebol Clube do Porto", the various churches and speacially the river mouth because it was the part of city that I loved most because it's very, very beautiful...

This proves that we don't have to go outside of our country to find beautiful places and beautiful landscapes...You only have to look for this in our country and yes, you certainly will find this...

PORTO, a journey to record and to repeat...

"THE LITTLE GIRL AND THE WOLF"
"The little girl and the wolf" was the fable that my group had to perform.I liked this play because I like to act, because I'm a very expressive person, I've a strong personality, so I love to act!!!

My group had worked very well in the classes so our performance was very good...

Our fable was a criticism by James Thurber about the way that parents brought their children up in the past...because they sometimes based their children's life in panic, fear and intimidation and James Thurber did this fable to criticise/alert people that this isn't a good way to bring up children, especially girls.

The story is about a little girl who meets a strange wolf in a dark forest which asks her where her grandmother lives. She gave him the answer and he runs to her grandmother's home to make her grandmother disappear...When the little girl arrives to there, she understands what happens and kills the wolf.

The story has a moral that is: it's not easy to fool little girls nowadays as it used to be. I liked a lot this story because I know it and was very fun to do a theatre based on it!!

"MY ASSESSMENT"
I think that this term was good to me because I worked in my portfolio, which is my favourite thing, because I love to write about the things that I like and about the things that I do in the classses...I also tried to understand other presentations about the themes of the term and I also tried to make a good job working in group/pairs, so for me I did a good job...

The difficult part to me was in the work about choosing a music in a group and make a poster that connects the music with the themes that we had worked in the class, because it was very difficult to choose the music in group and the work that we did in the classes was very disorganised, so we had to improve this in the presentation...

In this term what I like to do most was working in the portfolio and learn about the various generations...

So I think that I deserve a 15 like a final mark for this term...For me this mark isn't bad, but in second term I hope to have a better mark because I want to improve my English...

Learning Journal #6

"UGLY"

"Ugly" was the music that my group chose to connect with the themes "Be Beautiful" and "My Music". This music talks a lot of personalities and also how we see ourselves without caring about the things that others say to us..."Ugly" is a famous music of Sugababes, a known girl band.

The phrases that we think that are more important to know and understand the music are: "People are all the same" and "Personality reflects name".

I think that we had a good presentation and I also think that other groups have understood the music, its "story" and more importantly, the connection with the themes that we had worked in the classes - "My Music" and "Be Beautiful".

The hardest part of this work was the work in the classes because I think that my group could work more, but the final task(presentation) was good...So the thing that we have to improve is work more in the class because that's the way to have sucess and organization...

Learning Journal #5

"HUMAN RIGHTS"
We saw a film in class that talks about Human Rights and I think it is vey important that everybody knows the human rights that every person has...I think that we have rights as humans but sometimes we think that we are the most important persons in the world and we forgot the others and this is very, very bad...cos' we have to respect others to receive their respect...

This film is very real and true...I think that he's fantastic, I love the film...Why? Because it's true and makes me think that exists others realities and other world but mine...and makes me think too, that my problems are nothing in compare with those persons that aren't free and those persons that aren't respected by others. This persons are humans like me but the only difference it's that I am respected and I've human rights and those persons no...It's horrible think that happens these things in our planet, in our world...

So, we have to respect others and make sure that everybody has HUMAN RIGHTS because everybody is FREE...Freedom to choose, freedom to live is a right that every human has to have

Learning Journal #4

"THE GOOD THINGS IN MY LIFE"
I start a new section on my portfolio - "the good things in my life". In this section I'm going talk about my favourite things in life and why I like them.
My first themes were music and Coldplay. I choose these themes because music is very important to me and coldplay...I love them!!! Now I start a sub-topic, music...at the next time, I'm going to talk about jazz, which is very important to me, too.

Learning Journal #3

"THIS UNIT WAS ABOUT"
I liked this unit because in this unit we learned about the different types of generations and I liked a lot...

It's very interesting to know things about other generations and compare them with our generation. My favourite generation is MTV generation because I love music and see the videos of my favourite musics.I also like the generation of Nirvana because I adore their music, specially "come as you are" and "all apologies".

All in all I think this unit was important for us, because now we know a lot of things about others realities, about other moments that happened in our planet and also because now we can talk about other generations...I suggest that we can do a text about our favourite generation and justify why we chose that generation.

Learning Journal #2

"MY DIAGNOSIS"
I think I was good in my diagnosis test because I don't have a lot a doubts, abou the exercises which are in the test.

In the test, the point that I've more doubts and have more difficulty in solving is the question to build answers because I change the verb tenses!

For me, the questions that I prefer and that I complete more easily are about reading the text and interpretating, I like it a lot, as for grammar I like it and I do it easily, too, especially the exercises about circling the correct option.

Learning Journal #1

"I THINK I UNDERSTAND WHAT TEACHER TOLD US SO FAR"
I think I understand what the teacher told us so far, because in the class-room, I pay attention and I try to understand everything that teacher says to us! I've always liked English, so, I think that for me it isn't difficult to learn and understand what teacher told us.

I think I understand what the teacher told us so far, too, because the teacher can make the classroom very dinamic and interesting with different exercises and with creative/original presentations and I like it a lot.
